Nearly 70 windsurfers will be on the starting line of the Swedish event. The world's best riders of the Kona class prepare to battle in the cold waters of Scandinavia. Last year, at the Kona World Championships, 19-year-old Kajsa Larsson and 18-year-old Adam Holm from Stockholm won silver medals.

They are also one of the favorites for this year's Kona One Worlds 2012, to be held in November, in the Canary Islands. Kona One is one of the fastest growing windsurfing classes in the world and Sweden has some of the best sailors.

"In a few years, we have developed a very strong team. We have put a focus on matching up young talent. It feels very good when this work has borne fruit", says Anders Göthberg, from Swedish Kona One Associations.

It's not the first time that Varamobaden hosts a large Kona event. The 2009 World Cup was held here. "The Kona One Worlds 2009 were a great success and our aim is to offer an equally attractive and challenging arrangements now", says Leif Andersson of the Motala Yacht Club.

With the Kona One design, all sailors have identical boards and one sail is used in all winds. Size is determined by the sailor's weight, in order to deliver fair and equal conditions to all competitors.
