The sport of Stand Up Paddle boarding (SUP) is the latest craze sweeping the UK from Hawaii and now you can try it for yourself at Lagoon Watersport’s Hove Lagoon centre.
SUP is not just about riding waves it is also a fantastic way to keep fit , especially working your stomach muscles, so it is six packs all round for the summer!
The basic concept is you propel a large surf board (around 11 - 12 foot in length) with a paddle. From there what you do is up to you. That is the beauty; SUP can be what ever you want it to be – you can take your board for a leisurely cruise along the coast, paddle out to sea a ride waves from just a few inches high to real monsters, or your can use your board for fitness training.
SUP is very easy to learn, riders are out paddling on the sea with confidence extremely quickly. To get you started Lagoon Watersports are offering taster session for just £39.
Once you are hooked, you can purchase a board with from about £600. Alternatively Lagoon membership club membership now includes free hire of their SUP boards, as well as waterskiing, wakeboarding, windsurfing, sailing, surfing, yachting and even powerboating.
Lagoon Watersports will also be running some innovative fitness sessions. By combining SUP paddle boards, surf skis and surf boards they have created some great fitness sessions for the summer. Sessions are open to all. For more details of times and dates see www.lagoon.co.uk.
Harvey Dawkins, MD of Lagoon Watersports said: "Hove Lagoon is the perfect place to learn. The shallow, flat and calm water makes is ideal for your first go and building your confidence. Once you get the hang of it you can head out onto the sea"
"There is so much to like about SUP. It keeps you fit and you can catch waves you would not bother with on a surf board. I have even been putting a windsurf sail on mine and riding waves in light wind."
