Day 1: The opening day of the 2019 Gran Canaria Wind & Waves Festival saw the Men’s and Women’s pro fleets, plus the Youth’s, register for the next 9 days of the upcoming contest. After several days of stable, clockwork like sea breezes in Costa Brava, the weather pattern on the final day changed a little with a sea mist and heavy cloud cover setting in during the morning, which raised some concerns about whether the thermal would kick in. Idiot's Guide to... Foiling - PART 3 Part 3 --- time for an upgrade... time to fly higher!! Well I'll be honest I haven't had much time on the foil over the winter as I've been traveling/wave sailing. But with the summer coming up I thought it was time to get back on the foil program. So when I was at the Defi Wind a few weeks I spoke to 'Bruno Andre" the main man at AFS (Alien Foil Systems) and one of the first wind foilers in the world and he told me it was time for an upgrade... and I needed

Day 5: An exciting afternoon experimenting with Foil Slalom while Thomas Goyard extends event lead heading into the final day. The promising forecast for the penultimate day of the Catalunya Costa Brava PWA World Cup materialised to provide four solid hours of racing on another beautiful, sunny afternoon in 8-14 knots of wind. Day 4: of the Catalunya PWA World Cup produced the most racing of the week thus far with three more eliminations being completed in light winds - 6-13 knots. The opening race saw the fleet split in half, while the next two eliminations were run as a full fleet, but the usual suspects still prevailed. While the top sailors, so far this week. were generally still battling for top honours, each race produced a different winner, while the long courses today meant to field were well strung out. A

Day 3: The wind teased the competitors on several occasions today as the Tramontana fought with the local thermal effect for several hours. Eventually, as the temperature dropped the wind finally swung to the southeast and stabilised enough during the early evening to allow the third Foil elimination of the week to be completed in 5-13 knots. Day 2: We managed to sail a full elimination. After howling through the night, the Tramontana continued to blow at full force throughout the second day of the 2019 Catalunya PWA World Cup, meaning there were only two very brief periods when it was possible to safely race on Foils. Just to try and put into perspective how windy it truly was, the maximum recorded gust today was 59.9 knots as the Tramontana showed its face for the first time since the 2011 edition.
