Adam Lewis is next on the list for our Fanatic Winter Tales. Adam is on the Fanatic team since 2014, is always friendly and helpful and it is a absolute pleasure to watch his powerful style on the water! He has great potential on the PWA World Tour and it´s only a matter of time before we see him on the podium. Especially during the PWA Wave World Cup on Tenerife he showed off big time and even won the Siam Park Jumping Super Session there. Read further on what Adam is up to this winter!
Fanatic: What are you up to this winter?AL: So far this winter I’ve been back home in the UK enjoying the end of autumn. We get loads of swell and wind, the water hasn´t got too cold by then either, it’s my favorite time of the year to be home. I went on a quick trip to N/W Ireland that was incredible, the Wild Atlantic Way might be my favorite place on earth. It´s raw, untouched and stunning, they have the best Guiness and some of the best waves on the planet. Right now I’m spending January and February in Cape Town, I haven’t been back here for 8 years so it’s been great to spend some time here with the rest of the team.
Fanatic: What are you goals?AL: Sounds really cliché but I’d like try not to be caught up with everything and be grateful for what I have!
Fanatic: What keeps you motivated throughout the winter?AL: Sailing with other guys helps me a lot to keep pushing. Honestly just sailing in really good conditions, we spend a lot of time travelling on tour and don’t always get the best conditions but spending the winter searching for some magic really fires up my love for the sport.
Fanatic: What is your main move(s) you want to improve over the winter?AL: Oh goodness, it’s been the same for the last two years and hopefully I grow some nuts and get on with it this year but I just need to get my Doubles 100% some days they seem easy and other days I feel like I’m banging my head against a brick wall!
Fanatic: What other sports do you do?AL: I’m Surfing and Mountain Biking a lot right now and I totally love both.
Fanatic: Do these sports help your riding and translate into your sport Windsurf/SUP?AL: Surfing is the original board sport, for wavesailing it translates incredibly well. It’s all about wave selection and choosing the right part of the wave to do a certain turn. Mountain biking I actually started just as a good way to keep fitness and help keep my knees strong but actually I really like it. Surfing and Windsurfing can be really frustrating as the conditions are always changing and sometimes you get skunked with conditions especially in the UK. Biking keeps you sane sometimes because it’s pretty much always the same so you know what you are going to get.
Fanatic: Can you tell us a bit about your fitness and nutrition programme?AL: I’ve been training a lot at home with a really specific programme, which was great, loads of body weight stuff mixing reps with balance and core exercises. I’ve been mixing that up with some Yoga to help with flexibility, which I was a little hesitant to start but I have to say I’ve found really helpful. With nutrition I think I’m pretty healthy diet wise anyway. Loads of veggies, salad and water. I avoid as much processed food as possible and stay with basic ingredients.
Fanatic: Does it change over the winter?AL: A little bit yes – the diet stays the same but there is probably a good mix of beer in there too!
Fanatic: What gear are you riding?AL: I’m riding the TriWave right now and I love it!
Fanatic: How does your chosen gear suit your style?AL: I’ve been messing around a lot with different fin set-ups this year but I’ve found that with a trifin set up, I can drop down the wave turn as hard as I can at the bottom and then come straight back up vertical for a more critical explosive turn. The Quad was great at covering more ground down the line but the TriWave seemed to suit my style at the moment.
Fanatic: What would Fanatic customers like about your favourite board?AL: It´s fast and easy to use, it lets you come around vertical and you can attack the wave right in the pocket.
Fanatic: Are you linking up with any of your Fanatic Team riders this winter?AL: Well I’m in Cape Town right now and I think we managed to link up almost the complete team out here! It’s a really cool vibe!
Fanatic: What has been your highlight of 2016?AL: I think the highlight for me was winning the PWA Siam Park Jump off in Tenerife. I had to spend the night and next day with my knee’s raised and ice on them, the landings were so so hard but it was worth it!
Thxs a lot Adam and enjoy the rest of your winter training!
