2nd ANNUAL BUTTERFLY EFFECT TAHOE – LARGEST ALL WOMEN’S NON COMPETITIVE PADDLE IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, A HUGE SUCCESS
KINGS BEACH, CA (September 18, 2015) - The 2nd Annual Butterfly Effect (BE) Tahoe saw over 300 women participants of all ages. Beginning at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area, the day was crystal clear and winds calm, making for a perfect day on the water and at the beach.
As each participant checked in they were greeted with beautiful leis donated by the Hyatt Regency, goodie bags and a Hawaiian sarong from Keliki. Tatiana Howard, founder of The Butterfly Effect and Lindsey Felsch, the local event coordinator, led the morning ceremonies. As the participants stood in a large circle with smiles on their faces, Tatiana Howard expressed her desire to share the Aloha Spirit world wide, inspire and empower women through water sports all while giving back to local charities. After opening remarks a ceremonial hula performance set the tone. Before the final send off, the participants were led by Meredith Calderas of Tahoe Flow Arts for a brief yoga warm up, followed by a short dance fitness warm up by the Kaia Fit girls to get their blood flowing prior to the paddle. As the women entered the water and lined up underneath the colorful balloon arch they raised their paddles in the air and cheered!
After the beautiful 4 mile paddle along the coast line of Tahoe’s North Shore into Crystal Bay, Nevada the participates enjoyed a leisure paddle taking pleasure in the serine beauty and great company of the women that surround them. Upon returning to the beach, they were greeted with lunch from Central Market and hydration by Vita Coco and Wanu Water. The Aloha Beach Festival was filled with great music by Deon Pearson of Tru Blu Productions, hula hoop instruction by Lindsey Rodriquez of Tahoe Flow Arts, a Tahoe Water Women paddle work out by Anik Wild from Waterman’s Landing, a SUP Yoga class with Eileen Allen of Paddle Me and a fun group Twerkasana class with Meredith Calderas and Leah Pivirotto of Tahoe Flow Arts. The vendor village was filled with amazing local artisans, clothing companies, board shops and more.
As with every Butterfly Effect stop, a non-profit organization receives a donation from funds raised at the event. Girls On The Run – Sierras was selected as the beneficiary of proceeds from the 2nd Annual Butterfly Effect Tahoe. "Girls on the Run- Sierras was honored to be selected as the nonprofit beneficiary for the Butterfly Effect whose values align with our mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident. We loved being a part of the noncompetitive women on water event and collaborating with Lindsey and Tatiana to create a ripple effect of positive energy in Tahoe. We look forward to growing
the movement next year," said Danielle Rees Executive Director of Girls On The Run –
Sierras.
A Big Mahalo to our photographer Peter Spain for capturing the day and Rotor Collective for the video.

The PWA World Cup in Sylt in Germany is one of the highlights towards the end of the season and every rider is happy to return to its beaches as it normally provides gnarly conditions. Unfortunately, this year was different. The wind only was strong enough to have one slalom elimination but no freestyle or wave competition. The organizers kept the riders busy with SUP team competitions. But the highlights of the event were the freestyle tow-in shows where the JP riders did extremely well – especially Amado Vrieswijk NB-20, Julien Mas F-7 and Steven van Broeckhoven B-72. Here a short review and interview.

Music Video for "The Leaving Song" by Barry Kerr from his Album "Boy in a Boat"
https://www.barrykerr.com
Camera & Edit by Tam Mullen
Video Background by Tam Mullen:
From sunset to sunrise witness the beauty of the night sky with a galaxy of stars, auroras, noctilucent clouds, lightning, the Milky Way, meteors as well numerous aeroplanes criss crossing the sky.
Most of this footage is from the south shore of Lough Neagh in County Armagh where Barry is from. Several powerful solar storms in 2015 allowed for the aurora borealis to be so strong that it could be witnessed in the skies over Lough Neagh. During one of these storms on St Patrick's day I was able to take the opportunity to have a stand up paddle board with the dance of the aurora above visible to the naked eye which made for an otherworldly experience.
Also making a cameo appearance in the video is Lough Neagh Rescue’s Kinnego Lifeboat on a nighttime exercise (both myself and Barry are crew members).
As well as the view from ground level we step aboard some of those aeroplanes we see streaking across the sky. If you ever find yourself flying transatlantic get yourself a window seat with a northerly aspect and get ready for the ultimate in flight entertainment! I was lucky enough to capture auroras on flights over Hudson Bay and Newfoundland in Canada and even an aurora that was visible continuously all the way from Canada to the west coast of Ireland.
The rest of the footage comes from Belfast, Groomsport and Achill Island as well further afield beyond Ireland in Cavtat Croatia, Lake Talvijärvi Finland, Lake Washington USA and Eivissa Ibiza.
In Finland we again see the spectacular movement and colour of the aurora above the frozen landscapes of the Arctic.
