This week end I went to the West Mountains of Maui for a 3 hour hike on the Waihee Ridge Trail. This was an awesome hike, with spectacular views over the ocean, the forest and nature in general. The views of the valley and coastline are remarkable and unbeatable to me (see the photo below). To get through this trail start to finish, you've got to be in at least decent shape, and as a matter of fact, I was thankful to have my hiking shoes, and not just my regular running shoes!
On Tuesday 9th & Wednesday 10th, I went to Jaws for the first breaks of the Winter! Jaws is the name given to the big and ferocious waves surfing reef break on the north shore of Maui. After a 15min drive into the fields, I finally arrived to the best view ever: 20m waves breaking in the Ocean, a dozen of pro surfers ready to ride, and many scooters on the alert.
I feel really lucky to had the opportunity to see this awesome show, only one month after my arrival on the isle. Most people wait for weeks before seeing Jaws breaking. Indeed, this size of surf occurs only during winter months, from December to February! By the way, I saw Robby Naish Stand Up Paddling in the insane waves, and I also met Connor Baxter (SUP Paddler of the Year 2012) on the rocky beach.
