If you are close to 43 years old, and you rock up to win your 14th national championship title with 8 first places out of 9 slalom eliminations, well than you are our Point-7 Boss! That is what has happened this week on the Island of Sardinia.

Exactly in Calasetta, Sant’Antioco, a smaller Sardinian Island surrounded by amazing small bays with turquoise waters. The spot which has hosted the Italian Slalom Championship has offered amazing windy days.

The riders were able to finish the 9 eliminations in the first 3 days out of 4 planned, using sails between 6.2 up to 8.6.  It has been for sure one of the windiest editions, and with the most racing concluded from many years!

It was Andrea Cucchi from, of course our ‘Point-7 Black Team’, who has won this time. It was many years that he did not take part at the national championships, and he did it well! Andrea’s result was not the only important result for the Black Team, as Francesco Scagliola finished in second place:  being only 17 years old, he has managed to close the championships right behind Andrea, allowing 2 of our Point-7 AC-One to be on the top 2 places of the podium.

Did we dress up one legend from the Italian windsurfing of the past? Yes, we did! Alessandro Comerlati managed a good 7th place overall, after many years of no racing. For those who don’t know, Alessandro has been Andrea´s idol when he was just beginning to windsurf. Alessandro has been more than 5 times Italian champion in the 90’s, and record holder for many years of the One Hour Classic, which will take place end of June on Lake Garda.

Andrea Cucchi: “It was some years I did not take part at our nationals. I’ve been following the Black Team at the PWA World tour as we really wanted to prove that our AC-One was able to be the world’s champion sail. We were successful. Now I thought it was about time to go back to do some national events around Europe to give support, and advice technically, our national riders, to help them improve. I really enjoyed racing in this edition in Calasetta, as we had great racing in different and beautiful conditions. It was the best championship I remember so far. No complaints, no mistakes from the organizers, no protests and some rules in racing which I actually did not mind having, as it made racing feel safer than the no rule system used in PWA. I was never a big fan of rules, but after seeing some accidents in racing I actually started appreciated them…am I getting old ??!?
