Tyson Poor US-22 is the US SLALOM CHAMPION 2017 and in FREESTYLE he finished 3rd!

Here is the report from the champion:

image “This years US Windsurfing Nationals was held at the prestigious Berkeley Yacht Club in the San Francisco Bay Area. This is where I grew up sailing, so I was really excited to return to where it all started. The forecast for the week wasn’t looking very good, so they decided to start off with course racing. In the afternoon of the first day, they were able to squeeze in one slalom race before the wind completely shut off. I was out on my JP Slalom Pro 71 and my Neil Pryde Evo9 8.6 and was able to take the win.

The next day didn’t have enough wind for competition and was called off. Friday presented a similar forecast, with very light winds. They called the slalom sailors out for some extremely light wind racing. I was on my JP Slalom Pro 82 and my Neil Pryde 9.4 Evo9. I had to pump like crazy, just to try and plane through the entire course. I was able to pull a 2nd place finish out of that race.

On Saturday, the freestyle was scheduled to take place. The wind filled in to Berkeley for some classic Bay Area sailing. I went out on my JP Freestyle Pro 92 and Neil Pryde Wizard 4.8. With only one day to run the event, we quickly fired up the first heats at 3. I was able to win the first round, putting me directly into the 3rd round, matched up against Phil Soltysiak. It was a close heat, but Phil ended up beating me and moving into the finals. I got to sail one more heat, and ended up winning the losers final, taking 3rd place. There was enough wind for some big kono’s, culo’s, burners, skopu’s, and much more. It was a blast!

In the end, I was stoked to come home with a 1st in Slalom and 3rd in Freestyle!

Just wanted to say thanks to Weyman and the Berkeley Yacht Club for putting on an amazing event. Couldn’t have asked for a more smoothly run event, and I will be back next time for sure! Also want to thank JP-Australia, Neil Pryde, and Dakine for the amazing support and gear that continues to keep me at the top of the playing field.”
